£57m of funding announced for estate next to Grenfell

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is set to invest £57 million to transform the Lancaster West estate, next to Grenfell Tower.

According to the council’s Executive Decision Report, the estate will be fitted with double glazing, updated heating system and new kitchens and bathrooms, in order to deliver 'a model 21st century social housing estate'.

The £57 million is in addition to the £32 million pledged by the government to support Kensington and Chelsea College and the Grenfell community.

Kim Taylor-Smith, deputy council leader, said: “The refurbishment of the estate continues to be a huge priority for us. The work is guided by the priorities of residents. I’m proud this funding will help us to create a truly great place to live.”
