Some types of damp will only be apparent following changes to internal finishes, weather or temperature, ie redecorating emulsion painted walls with vinyl paints or wallpaper, damp caused/worsened by heavy rainfall/driving rain, condensation caused by reduced temperatures. This is why it is important to have a damp survey carried out on a property that you may not be familiar with but may be interested in purchasing.
Understanding the causes of damp and condensation, which can lead to problems with mould growth, is crucial for determining the most appropriate and efficient way of controlling the damp or condensation. We do this by measuring humidity and temperature and identifying any building defects which may be allowing for the damp. This may also include thermal imaging and borescope inspections to assess the condition of the cavity and insulation.
