A new online course launched by the College for National Security will help civil servants learn more about national security.
The course's aim is to break down barriers to understanding National Security threats and impacts and help civil servants integrate it into their jobs.
Speaking on the launch of the 'What is national security' course, college head Andrew Millar said: "To respond to a broad range of threats the UK faces, we need a workforce that is knowledgeable, skilled and connected when it comes to national security.”

A new survey has revealed that around 200,000 people claiming health and disability benefits are ready for work now if the right job or support were available.
The research published by the Department for Work and Pensions shows that nearly half (44%) of people with a mental health condition expect to be able to work in future if their health improves.

The government has announced £8.2 million of funding for a regeneration project in Port Talbot, South Wales.
At the latest meeting of the Tata Steel Port Talbot Transition Board, Welsh secretary Jo Stevens announced £8.2 million for the South Wales Industrial Transition from Carbon Hub (SWITCH) supporting more than 100 jobs.
SWITCH will redevelop a four-acre site at Harbourside, Port Talbot which will include the construction of additional shared space, undertake flood mitigation and the provision of specialist equipment.

Official Homelessness Statistics covering the period 1 April to 30 September 2024 have been published.
Over that period there were 20,823 applications for homelessness assistance. This is an increase of 1 per cent compared with the same six-month period in 2023.
At the same time, there were 17,424 households assessed as homeless or threatened with homelessness, which is an increase of 4 per cent on the same six-month period in 2023.

Birmingham City Council, in partnership with ubitricity, the UK’s largest chargepoint operator, to rollout a pilot of 560 lamppost EV chargepoints across residential areas of the city.

The Welsh government has made available an additional £10 million to help kickstart the development of new affordable housing schemes across Wales.
The funding will contribute to a broader package of investment that has been secured with the aim of delivering more homes for people across Wales.
The extra funding will see the delivery of 238 new homes.
16 schemes that are ready to start work have already been identified.
The funding will be used to acquire  properties and land where homes will be developed and completed.

Six new areas have been brought onto the Devolution Priority Programme, with Mayors to be elected by May 2026.
The areas will be given sweeping new powers, aimed at delivering growth, opportunities, transport and housing for local communities.  
The programme will be one of the largest ever single packages of mayoral devolution in England and will support the the areas to move towards devolution at pace, becoming mayor-led strategic authorities by May next year if they proceed.

Scotland's chief statistician has published figures of local government finance in 2023-24.
The figures give an overview of the financial activity of local government, including revenue expenditure and income; capital expenditure and financing; reserves; debt; and pensions.
The figures show that local authorities’ net revenue expenditure in 2023-24 was £14,296 million. Education and Social Work were the services with highest net revenue expenditure, accounting for £6,960 million and £4,604 million respectively.

The government has unveiled a new flood package to build new flood defences and maintain and repair those already in place.  
It is hoped the record £2.65 billion will build or maintain up to 1,000 flood defences, and protect more than 66,000 properties. As part of the Plan for Change, 52,000 properties are set to benefit from new defences by March 2026.
Repairs will be reprioritised for investment in maintenance, protecting a further 14,500 properties.
