The Department for Transport has launched a £2 million Transport Decarbonisation Demonstrators programme to encourage businesses and local authorities to work together to develop and trial transport schemes that cut emissions in the long term.
Any UK business can apply for up to £500,000 to run innovative trials that tackle local transport challenges on the ground. Half of this £2 million fund will be reserved for rural areas.

Bradford, the UK City of Culture, is to get a new railway station.
The plans, which were first announced last month, are part of Network North.
The Department for Transport has given £400,000 to the local authority to kickstart master planning on the project.
The planning will consider how the new station can best support regeneration in the surrounding area and maximise its potential to create new homes, jobs and local economic growth – as well as significantly improving transport links and cutting journey times.

Recent polling from the Local Government Association (LGA) and YouGov has revealed that only 5 per cent of the public feel prepared for the impacts of climate change.
The research found that the public trust their council the most to lead the effort to prepare villages, towns and cities to the climate impacts.
The polling found that 63 per cent of people are worried about climate change, but 12 per cent think climate change will not impact their areas.

An old chapel in Hermon, Pembrokeshire is being developed into a heritage centre, café, and affordable flats, thanks to the efforts of local people and the help of the Welsh Government’s Project Perthyn grant.
The community are on the verge of purchasing the old chapel building and work has already begun on developing the site.
The funding was awarded through the Perthyn Small Grants scheme, which aims to help create economic opportunities, provide affordable housing led by the community, by supporting Welsh-speaking communities with a high density of second homes.

£267 million is to be spent on boosting local drug and alcohol treatment.
Every local authority in England will be given additional funding to help combat drug and alcohol misuse.
The funding will be rolled out in April 2024 and can be spent on recruiting more specialised staff to work with people with drug and alcohol problems and supporting more prison leavers into treatment and recovery services.

Former prime minister David Cameron has been appointed foreign secretary. He has also become a Lord.
Cameron replaces James Cleverly, who has been appointed Home Secretary, after Suella Braverman was sacked.
Cameron served as prime minister from 2010 to 2016, and resigned after the Brexit referendum and was replaced by Theresa May.
During his time as prime minister, Cameron oversaw austerity, the passing of the Health and Social Care Act and the legalisation of same-sex marriage in England and Wales, as well as the Scottish independence referendum.

Suella Braverman has been sacked as home secretary.
The announcement comes after she wrote an article in the Times last week, in which she criticised "pro-Palestinian mobs" and said that the protest scenes were reminiscent of those seen in Northern Ireland.
In the article, she also criticised the Met Police for their "double standards" when policing protests. The article was not signed off by Downing Street and changes requested by Downing Street were not made.

According to new analysis for London Councils, almost 60,000 Londoners living in the private rented sector are likely to become homeless over the next six years if the government maintains the freeze on Local Housing Allowance (LHA).
London Councils commissioned independent research from Alma Economics that estimates an additional 16,500 to 22,000 London households will become homeless by 2030 unless LHA is raised.
It is estimated that 22,000 households equates to 58,740 individuals – including 28,000 children.

Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty has published his annual report, in which he recommends actions to improve quality of life for older adults and prioritise areas with the fastest growth in older people.
The focus of the report is on how to maximise the independence, and minimise the time in ill health, between people in England reaching older age and the end of their life.
The report is aimed at policymakers (government and professional bodies), healthcare professionals, medical scientists and the general public.

The London borough of Redbridge is trialling a new technique for fixing potholes.
Spray Injection Patching has no excavation, waste, or heat involved, which means that holes can be fixed with minimal carbon emissions and less impact on the environment.
The Spray Injection Patching machine has already been successful, making a record-breaking 120 repairs in one day, and nearly 2200 pothole repairs during the 12-week trial.
