At COP28 in Dubai, energy security secretary Claire Coutinho has committed over £85 million to tackle climate change.
The package will be used to protect the world’s rainforests, encourage investment in clean energy technologies and help developing countries cut their carbon emissions.
The funding includes up to £35 million to protect the Amazon rainforest through Brazil’s dedicated Amazon Fund.

The Mayor of London has launched a new initiative to crack down on damp and mould in the capital's homes.
The initiative will help local authority housing enforcement officers acquire new skills to help them identify and deal with damp and mouldy homes.
Sadiq Khan has also called for tougher sanctions for unscrupulous private landlords who let out sub-par homes.
More than 70 local authority officers have so far received specific damp and mould training as part of the Mayor’s wider Better Renting programme.

New legislation has been passed in the Senedd, which gives the Welsh Government greater powers to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution across Wales.
The Bill was introduced to the Senedd in March 2023, and implements measures that contribute to improvements in the quality of the air environment in Wales and reduces the impacts of air pollution on human health, biodiversity, the natural environment and our economy.

The government has set out plans to boost access to nature ahead of COP28.
A new nature package includes measures to improve access to green space and connect the public with the natural world.
The package also includes launching a search for a new National Park, 24 landscape recovery projects, new forests and funding to help more children get outdoors.
The landscape recovery projects will cover over 200,000 hectares of land, including woodlands, rainforests and sustainable food production.

£150 million of funding has been announced to help people at risk of homelessness into stable, long-term accommodation.
46 local authorities, housing providers, and charities across England will be able to build or buy 1,230 homes for the most vulnerable.
The money will also be used to fund a range of accommodation and support services for vulnerable adults, including purpose-built accommodation and supported housing, as well as helping with building repairs and renovations.

Enfield Council has transformed 80 hectares of land into woodland, using natural solutions to reduce the risk of flooding.
The new woodlands are on an areas, which was previously grasslands.

The Environment Agency has launched a campaign urging business and the public to help in the fight against waste crime.
Waste crime includes fly-tipping and environmental permit breaches.
It is estimated that waste crime costs the English economy around £1 billion a year.
In the year to September 2023, the Environment Agency has closed 518 illegal waste sites, brought 32 prosecutions against waste criminals and imposed fines and costs of over £580,000.

£43 million of funding has been announced to upgrade broadband in rural parts of Oxfordshire and North East Staffordshire.
Around 16,000 homes and businesses in hard-to-reach areas will be upgraded with lightning-fast broadband.

Environment secretary Steve Barclay is to launch a competition for a new national forest to improve access to nature.
Communities will be able to nominate their local areas to become a new national forest. The winning area will receive up to £10 million to help fund the project.
The competition will build on the success of the National Forest in the Midlands, which spans 200 square miles across parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
