Hull launches community flood warning scheme
As part of the ten year anniversary of the 2007 floods, Hull City Council has created a new voluntary scheme for community flood wardens.
The council is urging local residents in Sutton to volunteer as flood wardens, who form a link between the authorities and communities at risk from flooding, as part of this scheme and engage with the flood team, Groundwork and the Environment Agency to find out how they can help their local community.

‘Don’t kick social care reform into the long grass’
Following the recent General Election, county leaders are urging the government to avoid ‘kicking social care reform into the long grass’.
The County Councils Network (CCN) has warned that the government risks repeating the well-documented social care funding crisis in a few years’ time unless tangible and long-lasting reform is sought.
To prevent this, the government must launch a green paper on the future sustainability of social care, with counties and their local government partners central to any review or reform.

Quarter of foster children placed out of council area
New figures have revealed that more than a quarter of children in care in Wales were placed in new homes outside of their county.
As of 31 March 2016, approximately 1,500 of the 5,600 placements were made out of local authority areas, with Merthyr Tydfil council having the highest rate of looked-after children placed outside its area, sitting at 84 out of 141 children, and Swansea council the lowest rate at 24 out of 510.
