It has been announced that Birmingham 2022 funding has been secured with the aim of continuing the legacy of the games.
£60 million of underspend from the Birmingham 2022 budget will be invested in the West Midlands. The funding aims to increase access to sport and culture, boost the reputation of the area as a host for major events and drive inward investment and tourism.

Following a declaration by Natural England, the Flashes of Wigan and Leigh are now one of the UK's largest urban nature reserves.
The 738-hectare area, which is a former industrial wasteland, is now a nationally important site for rare wildlife including willow tit and bittern.
