Tech minister, Damian Collins, has announced the creation of a new Telecommunications Lab in Solihull, hoped to create dozens of jobs for the region.
The lab will be a secure research facility which brings to together telecoms operators, suppliers and academics to research and test innovative ways of boosting the security, resilience and performance of the UK's mobile networks.
The lab is the first of its kind in the country, and is set to create specialist jobs in telecoms and cyber security.

Former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has been made chancellor, following the sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng earlier today.
The appointment makes him the fourth Chancellor this year.
Elected Conservative MP for South West Surrey in May 2005, he previously served as secretary of state for health and social care from 2012 to 2018 under David Cameron and Theresa May and Foreign Secretary from 2018 to 2019 under Theresa May.

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has flown home from the US early for urgent talks on the mini-budget.
The budget has faced criticism from many inside and outside of the party.
Kwarteng was in Washington DC to attend a meeting of global finance ministers.
Shortly after the mini budget was announced, Kwarteng then scrapped plans to cut the top rate of income tax. Following the news that he is returning to the UK, some are expecting further U-turns. Some are speculating that the plan for corporation tax could be reversed.

Funding has been announced for research centres across the country to support the improve the delivery of health and care services and boost the economy.
The funding aims to level up innovation and address health inequalities across the innovation.
The funding will be allocated by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), and will be spent on specialist research facilities.

During National Hate Crime Awareness Week, Wokingham Borough Council has urged residents to stay safe online, highlighting the link between hate crime and hateful extremism as many incidents now take place online.
The council said: "Hateful extremism is behaviour that can incite and amplify hate, or when someone engages in persistent hatred motivated by hostile or supremacist beliefs. It often involves the justification of violence to cause harm to individuals or communities."

In September, the Welsh government announced £1 million of funding for warm hubs. They recently released a further statement on how the funding will be distributed and used.
According to the statement, warm hubs should be an inviting place to spend time, be open and inclusive and take into account local and cultural needs.
The hubs could provide refreshments and snacks and possibly meals; advice and support services and activities.
Funding for warm hubs in Wales will be distributed via local authorities in Wales.

To mark the UN's International Day of the Girl on Tuesday, a 16-year-old from Barry became first minister of Wales for the day.
The day aims to celebrate the power of girls and calls for action to bring down the barriers girls face.
Around the world, girls have taken over key roles in media, business and government.

Local authorities are set to receive funding for research into health inequalities in their local area.
£50 million is being invested to improve health outcomes across the country.
13 local authorities will receive the funding, which will be used to set up Health Determinants Research Collaborations (HDRCs) with experts and academics addressing knowledge gaps in local areas.

Over £50 million has been awarded to projects across Moray and the North East of Scotland to help with the green energy transition and secure jobs.
22 projects are set to receive funding, to cover research and innovation; new green skills training facilities; pilots for emerging energy technologies and projects that will prepare businesses for the supply chain opportunities that are set to come from the transition to net zero.

The government has announced £122 million of funding to provide employment advisers to people with common mental health problems including stress, anxiety and depression.
The money will be used to roll out a NHS England service across the country, which aims to help people receiving mental health support to stay in work or return to the job market.
Therapists and employment advisers will work together to find people work tailored to them.
