Ofgem, the energy regulator, has announced the energy price cap will be reduced for the period 1 July to 30 September 2023.
From 1 July, the energy price cap will be set at an annual level of £2,074 for a dual fuel household paying by direct debit based on typical consumption. This reflects recent falls in wholesale energy prices.
The new price cap is a reduction on last quarter's cap and also a reduction in how much customers will have to pay.
The July price cap will be £2,074, a reduction of £1,206 from the April cap of £3,280.

RSH finds Birmingham City Council in breach of consumer standards
The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has concluded that Birmingham City Council has breached the consumer standards.

A flood wall has been completed in Matlock as part of the Environment Agency's project to reinstate the flood defences of the town.
The wall will provide protection for 50 homes and businesses from the river Derwent.
A privately owned wall in the same place collapsed after damage from floods in February 2022.
The project is being delivered in partnership with Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Dales District Council.

The government has announced £165 million of funding to transform local skills.
The funding is intended to address local employer skills gaps, transform training and grown the economy.
Further education providers are being invited to apply for funding from the  Local Skills Improvement Fund. The money will be used to to renovate facilities with up-to-date equipment, help to upskill teachers, and deliver new courses in key subjects such as green construction, carbon capture and cyber security that meet the needs of local employers.

North Tyneside Council has revitalised its Killingworth Site depot to enable fleet charging using energy stored from its solar panels to charge its electric vehicles.

The government has announced funding for grassroots facilities across the UK.
The ongoing UK-wide £300 million invested is intended to build capacity in in underserved areas and underrepresented groups, as well as improve access to high-quality facilities and increase participation in grass roots sports in Wales.
43 sites across Wales will receive a share of £1.2 million as part of the government's investment in sport facilities in collaboration with the Cymru Football Foundation.

National Highways has released a report with a range of measures to improve the strategic road network, which includes the greater use of digital technologies and the installation of 2,500 new rapid electric vehicle chargers.

The government has announced £200 million to improve walking and cycling routes around the country.
The newly funded schemes are expected to generate up to 16 million more walking and cycling trips a year across the country.
The funding is intended to enhance rural connections, create 120 miles of cycling track and see 130 more schemes to help over 35,000 children on their way to school. The improved routes will boost healthier travel options and grow the economy.
265 schemes in 60 areas will receive a share of the funding.
