The Social Housing (Regulation) Act has received Royal Assent and is set to become law.
The act introduces several changes, including strengthening the Regulator of Social Housing to carry out regular inspections of the largest social housing providers and the power to issue unlimited fines to rogue social landlords, additional Housing Ombudsman powers to publish best practice guidance to landlords following investigations into tenant complaints and powers to set strict time limits for social landlords to address hazards such as damp and mould.

The Seaford to Eastbourne Nature Recovery Project has launched, aiming to create wildlife-rich habitats, improve climate security, and offer opportunities for the local communities.
The project covers around 12,000 ha of the landscape and seascape of the the Sussex Heritage Coast and hinterland. The project was originally inspired by studies of the chalk aquifers in the area, that demonstrated the importance of healthy chalk grass and chalk heath habitats to maximise deep soil moisture and water infiltration.

The Conservative party have lost two of the three by-elections that were held on Thursday 20th June.
Labour won the Selby and Ainsty by-election, where 25-year-old Keir Mather overturned a majority of over 20,000 to become the youngest current MP sitting in the House of Commons. This is the largest majority Labour have ever overturned at a by-election. This seat was vacated by Nigel Adams.

The Scottish Government has announced £550,000 will be given to more than 30 charities providing local outdoor play initiatives for children to expand their projects.
It is hoped that around 14,000 children living in deprived areas will be able to access more outdoor play opportunities thanks to the funding.
The Outdoor Community Play Fund will will support children and families through the year, including during the school holidays.

By-elections are being held in three constituencies today, following the resignation of three Conservative MPs.
By-elections are taking place in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Selby and Ainsty and Somerton and Frome.
The Uxbridge seat is vacant due to the resignation of former prime minister Boris Johnson. Johnson won a 7,000 majority there at the last general election in 2019.
Nigel Adams stood down from his Selby and Ainsty seat shortly after Boris Johnson resigned. He had previously won with a 20,000 majority.

First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford and Cornwall Council Leader Linda Taylor have signed an agreement setting out a five-year action plan to work closely together on shared areas on interest.
The Celtic Heritage Cornwall-Wales Collaboration Agreement will focus on 4 areas: sustainable housing, achieving net zero, thriving rural economies, and celebrating culture and language.

Local councils are being urges to step up efforts to provide permanent homes for Afghans who fled the Taliban and are currently living in temporary hotel accommodation.
Temporary hotel accommodation is costing around £1 million a day.
The minister for veterans’ affairs Johnny Mercer MP, called on local authorities to do everything they can to make use of the Government’s £285 million package of re-housing support.

The Department for Transport has launched a campaign to encourage older people to make the most of free bus travel.
The ‘Take the Bus’ campaign is targeting people aged 66 and above, and disabled people who are eligible for a concessionary pass, to encourage them to make the most of free bus travel to meet friends, connect with nature and visit new places this summer.
Recent statistics have shown that concessionary journeys are down by more than a third since before the pandemic.

South Yorkshire has been announced as the UK's first Investment Zone.
Communities in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley can expect thousands of new jobs and £1.2 billion of investment as part of the UK’s first Advanced Manufacturing Investment Zone.
12 Investment Zones will be be established across the UK based around a university and clusters of high growth industries like Advanced Manufacturing, life sciences or green industries.
