The government has launched a £2 million advertising campaign encouraging residents to report issues and make complaints in an attempt to improve social housing conditions.
The government says that residents should feel confident to challenge unacceptable conditions and notify their landlord when things go wrong. Tenants should be informed of their rights and know that they can escalate to the Housing Ombudsman if their concerns are not addressed.
Adverts will run across radio and social media.

The government has announced £60 million of funding to transform and regenerated brownfield sites and unlock land for housing.
More than 6,000 homes are set to be built on brownfield sites, with money given to councils to transform unused brownfield land.
Nearly 100 regeneration projects are set to receive funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
The funding is part of the second phase of the £180 million Brownfield Land Release Fund.

£89 million of funding has been awarded to 20 net zero technology projects, including hydrogen-powered off-road vehicles, a new lithium scale-up plant and new EV battery systems.
The projects include include four collaborative R&D projects, five scale-up projects to assess if businesses in the automotive sector are ready for growth, and seven feasibility studies to prepare projects to develop large-scale manufacturing facilities in the UK.

The government has announced £3 million of funding to transform technology in social care in an attempt to improve people's independence and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
Four projects have received a share of £3 million from the Adult Social Care Technology Fund. The funding is to be used to identify care-focused technology solutions that have the potential for wider rollout within the sector.

The government has launched a five-year intervention at Birmingham City Council to "fix serious problems".
Commissioners have been appointed to tackle financial and governance problems after the intervention was confirmed by levelling up secretary Michael Gove.
The team of six commissioners will be led by Max Caller CBE and will be able to provide advice and challenge the council whilst making decisions directly, if necessary. The commissioners will have powers relating to governance, finance and recruitment.

The prime minister has announced that the HS2 Phase 2 new line between Birmingham and Manchester will be scrapped with the money to be redirected to other transport projects.
The new plans will instead focus on improving travel between and within towns and cities and around local areas.
At the centre of the plan is Network North, which aims to drive better connectivity across the North and Midlands with faster journey times, increased capacity and more frequent, reliable services across rail, buses and road.

The government has announced that those born on or after 1 January 2009 will never legally be able to buy cigarettes.
The law will stop children who turn 14 this year or younger from buying cigarettes. Effectively, the legal age to buy cigarettes will rise one year every year.
Proposed new legislation will make it an offence for anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 to be sold tobacco products.
Four in five smokers start before the age of 20, it is hoped that by stopping young people from smoking, an entire generation will be protected from the harms of smoking.

The government has announced a £60 million Regional Innovation Fund to boost support for universities in areas with lower levels of R&D investment.
Technology secretary Michelle Donelan announced the plans.
The RIF will see £48.8 million go towards 110 universities across England and will be delivered by Research England.
