London Councils has revealed that London boroughs will need to make more than £500 million of savings next year in order to balance the books.
The cross-party group surveyed council finances and is warning that nine in ten London boroughs are expecting overspend this year.
London Councils warned of a perfect storm of prolonged high inflation, fast-increasing demand for services, and insufficient government funding, which could lead to a growing risk of financial and service failures.

The government has set it its plan to create a smoke-free generation and launched a public consultation on youth vaping in an attempt to crack down on vapes being promoted to children.
People of all ages are invited to take part in the consultation, which includes proposals to restrict child-friendly flavours and bright coloured packaging.

The team uses machinery to clear local ditches and rivers to prevent flooding. Previously, they had used fossil-fuel-powered, hand-held equipment for this task. However, since 2020, the team have been replacing this with more modern, cleaner, greener battery powered technology, saving money and carbon emissions, and at the same time, improving their health and wellbeing.
