25 businesses across the country have received almost £52 million of government funding to reduce their carbon emissions, all as part of the UK government’s Plan for Change to accelerate net zero and become a clean energy pioneer.

The government has published a letter from deputy prime minister Angela Rayner to housing industry stakeholders, following the government’s consultation on proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), which was launched in July 2024.

Welsh first minister Eluned Morgan told the Senedd how she plans to deliver for Wales in 2025. Her focus on the government’s work programme: ‘leeched da’ -- a Healthier Wales — prioritises jobs, green growth, opportunity, and connecting communities, builds on the £157 million of investment the Welsh government has already put towards delivering these promises.

Around 131,000 homes and businesses in rural and hard-to-reach areas will be able to access faster broadband speeds, which will help break down barriers to opportunity and kickstart economic growth as part of the government’s Plan for Change.

Since the introduction of the Council Tax Reduction scheme in 2013, households across Scotland have received a total £4.1 billion in relief.
Those on low incomes are eligible for the benefit if they live in Scotland, which is different from England where there is no equivalent and all households must contribute to council tax, irrespective of ability to do so.
The newest data show that 460,560 recipients were eligible for Council Tax Reduction in October 2024, saving an average of over £850 a year.

The Welsh government has given £1.4 billion towards road projects across Wales to improve accessibility, reduce journey times, boost reliability, and to increase safety on the roads.

The Welsh Government has made available £10m in Financial Transaction Capital  to fund regeneration projects across the country.
The Transforming Towns Loans programme supports local authorities with town and city centre regeneration projects and has allocated more than £62m since its launch in 2014. 
The scheme has the aim of reducing the number of vacant and underutilised sites and buildings to diversify town centre offers and increase footfall. 
The money also encourages more sustainable uses for empty premises.

The Welsh Government has awarded up to £10 million of grant funding to 32 community green energy projects across Wales.
The projects will be delivered over the coming months after a competitive application process.
The projects include solar panels, heat pumps, battery storage and electric vehicle charging points.
It is hoped that the projects will smarten up the use of energy across a wide range of organisations including: schools, leisure centres, care homes, business parks, community centres, and activity centres.

The government has announced that new waste incinerators will only receive planning approval if they meet strict new local and environmental conditions.
According to statistics, recycling rates in England have stalled over the last 14 years. 49 per cent of all waste collected by local authorities in 2022/23 was incinerated, with just 40% recycled. 
The new rules will mean that projects will need to maximise efficiency and support the delivery of economic growth, net zero and the move to a circular economy.
