The government has committed £10.5 billion for flood defences to protect nearly 900,000 properties.
New reforms have been announced that mean deprived communities will benefit from new flood defences and defences will be built more quickly.
Rules on allocating flood defence funding haven't been updated since 2011.
The new rules will be used for the next flood programme starting in April 2026.

The Environment Agency is launching Flood Action Week, by urging the public to get flood ready. This could include signing up for flood warnings or preparing a flood plan.
Following several storms last year, and Storm Amy already this year, people are warned not to be complacent.
Flood Action Week will run from 13-19 October. It is an annual campaign from the Environment Agency.

The government has announced £84 million to prevent homelessness and support families over the winter.
Children and families in temporary accommodation will be prioritised, with the funding to be used to help families cover essentials like food, school travel and laundry.
There are currently record numbers of households in temporary accomodation, including 170,000 children. Levels of rough sleeping have more than doubled since 2010.
Areas with the highest pressures will be prioritised, like London.

The government has announced plans for a review of GP funding to deliver fairer distribution of funding and tackle health inequalities.
The current formula for distributing GP funding, the Carr-Hill formula, is based on data that is around 25 years old in some cases. The formula uses expected workload of GP practices to determine distribution of funding for GP practices across England.

Government, regulators and industry have signed an agreement to deliver 21,000 new homes for North Sussex.
Around 4,000 homes that were previously stalled for four year will now proceed while enabling a further 17,000 to be built.

Organisations and businesses can bid for a share of £1 million in funding to help them to enable more active travel, such as walking, wheeling or cycling, Active Travel England (ATE) has announced.
The Active Travel Innovation Fund is inviting applications from small to medium-sized businesses and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), with grants of up to £100,000 available for each successful project.

It has been revealed that 151 flood schemes were delivered in the government's first year in power, protecting more than 24,000 homes and businesses.
The government is investing at least £10.5 billion until 2036, the largest flood programme in history. This is expected to benefit more than 890,000 properties, with the construction of new flood schemes and repaired defences.

£20 million from the Museum Renewal Fund is to be shared between 75 civic museums.
The funding will be used to improve public access to collections, protect community and educational programmes, and help to ensure treasured local and regional museums are fit for the future.
Beneficiaries include Birmingham Museums Trust, Barnsley Museums and Discover Bucks Museum.

Schools in England could face an annual shortfall of £310 million in covering the cost of free school meals unless urgent action is taken, according to a new report led by Northumbria University. 
Earlier this year, the government announced changes to the eligibility criteria for means-tested free school meals. All pupils from households in receipt of Universal Credit would benefit from free school meals – over 600,000 children according to government predictions.
