The Regulator of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing has taken action against Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) after an investigation found widespread failings on damp and mould.
The investigation follows the coronor's verdict on the death of Awaab Ishak. The coroner found that mould in his home contributed to the five-year-old's death.
The investigation by the Regulator of Social Housing found that Rochdale Boroughwide Housing had breached the regulator's consumer and governance standards.

Nurses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland have begun the biggest strike in the history of the NHS.
Urgent and life-preserving care will still go ahead, though routine surgery and other planned treatment is likely to be disrupted.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said the strikes are to demand fair pay and patient safety and in objection to years of real-terms pay cuts and concerns over patient safety.
The RCN called for a pay rise to overcome years of real-terms pay cuts and for the recruitment and retainment of nursing staff to protect patient safety.

The Welsh Government has published its provisional local government settlement for 2023-24.
Compared to the current year, core revenue funding for local government will increase by 7.9 per cent on a like-for-like basis and no local authority will receive an increase of less than 6.5 per cent.
Key services provided by local authorities, including social care and education, will be backed by £5.5 billion in Welsh Government Revenue Support Grant and non-domestic rates.
A consultation on the provisional settlement is open now and will close on 2 February 2023.

The stats cover the diversity of core Scottish Government (SG Core) permanent staff and the experiences of different demographic groups and are based on data available as of 31 December 2021.

Social housing tenants in England are set to get training and support in order to help them raise issues with their landlord.
A £500,000 government grant has been awarded to a partnership of experts in the sector to roll out a training package.
Through workshops, forums and online resources, residents will learn how to take an active role in how their home is managed. Support could include advice on how to set up a residents panel or how to challenge a landlord if they fail to meet required standards.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak has had a virtual meeting with other G7 leaders. Ukraine's president Zelenskyy also attended.
The leaders paid tribute to the G7's support of Ukraine, with Sunak saying it was clear that Putin is realising he can no longer win on the battlefield and is now resorting to cynical tactics, including attacks on critical national infrastructure.
The prime minister urged the other G7 leaders to combine their efforts and match their support for Ukraine in 2023.

The welsh government has announced a real living wage pay uplift for social care workers.
Local authorities and health boards in Wales will receive £70 million of funding to deliver the uplift. Social care workers will receive £10.90 an hour from June 2023.
The new rate of pay will apply to registered workers in care homes and domiciliary care, in both adults and children’s services and personal assistants who provide care and support which is funded through a direct payment.

The Scottish government has announced a £1.4 million Cost Crisis Emergency Fund for islanders most impacted by the cost of living crisis.
The fund will be used to target immediate support to those who are struggling, through existing schemes or new support.
The funding will be allocated to the six island local authorities.
It has been identified that the cost of living is higher on the islands compared to the mainland.

Welsh first minister Mark Drakeford has announced the winner of his annual Christmas card competition as Harry Gourlay.
11-year-old Harry is a pupil at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Llanelli.
The competition was open to year 5 and 6 pupils in Wales, with the theme this year "A Christmas Welcome".
The winning design was chosen by the first minister himself and will be used on his official Christmas card.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced £725,000 of funding for grassroots community groups to empower them to counter extremism, tackle the rise in hate crime offences and keep Londoners vulnerable to radicalisation safe.
The funding comes from a fund of £2 million to support grassroots community groups to stand up to hate.
The funding will be used by community and grassroots groups to run projects and educational activities to help empower Londoners of all ages to challenge racist, extremist and hateful views in their communities.
