Those who wreak havoc on local communities will face tough restrictions under new powers announced by the home secretary today.

Up to 300,000 households are to benefit from home upgrades over the next year, as the government announces new steps to help households save money on their bills and deliver cleaner heating.

The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has published the results of the latest quarterly survey of private registered providers’ financial health.
According to the figures, providers are investing record amounts in existing homes, with spend on repairs and maintenance totalling £2.1 billion in the quarter. In the year to September they spent a total of £8.4 billion. A further £9.6 billion is forecast for the next 12 months.

The government has published reforms intended to protect and reverse the decline in council housing.
The changes has been published for consultation and aim to deliver a fairer and more sustainable scheme by continuing to allow longstanding tenants to buy their own homes while at the same time supporting councils to protect and rebuild their depleted housing stock.
Measures include extending the length of time someone has to be a tenant before they can buy their home and protecting newly built social homes from sale through exemptions.

As part of Wales’ commitment to the Welsh language scheme, the Intellectual Property Office’s (IPO) home page and main navigation pages on GOV.UK are now available in both Welsh and English.
The translation programmes has seen teams at the IPO — including Welsh-speaking staff — work with the Government’s Digital Service (GDS) to create Welsh content for the IPO’s website.
The initiative started with the trademark applications service, and then will move onto translating popular services and most visited website content into Welsh.

The government has announced new guidance to make school runs healthier, safer, greener and more active.
The guidance has been published by Active Travel England and the Department for Transport and sets out how councils can better deliver school street schemes, so that they work best for pupils and staff as well as local businesses and residents.
'School Streets' temporarily only allow motor traffic with a permit outside the school gates at pick up and drop off times, creating safer space for children and their families to walk, wheel, cycle or scoot to school.
