New affordable homes project takes off
Plans for a raft of new affordable homes across a number of sites in north Manchester is set to be approved by the city council’s executive.
External funding as well as council investment have been confirmed for two major schemes that will deliver around 135 homes which will be affordable for Manchester people.
The council has secured £8.43 million from the council and £2.85 million from the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) Shared Ownership and Affordable Housing Programme to help build 25 shared ownership and 50 affordable rental products.

Jeremy Hunt's title changes to Health and Social Care Secretary
Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, has had his role changed to Health and Social Care Secretary in Theresa May's latest cabinet reshuffle.
Currently, social care is funded through local government. The minister responsible for adult social care in Department for Communities and Local Government was Marcus Jones, who has lost his job in the reshuffle. Hunt’s new title however means he may take over responsibility for this portfolio.
The move could be a real step towards the integration of health and social care, a long-term ambition for policy makes in this area.

£1.1 million for children’s home

£1.1 million for children’s home
A children’s home for young people has undergone major improvements thanks to funding from the Department for Education.
The £1.1 million improvements to the current building provides a new reception area where young people are welcomed when they arrive, visitor rooms and conference facilities.
The home is one of only seven welfare-only accommodation facilities in the country. Trained staff work with the young people to help them return to having a positive lifestyle within the community.
