The government has announced that local NHS services in West Yorkshire will receive £1.3 billion investment to train and upskill people for jobs in the health and social care sector.

Business and commercial leaders in Sheffield and surrounding areas have been encouraged to apply for senior public sector roles in a bid to increase regional representation on UK public boards.
The government makes around 1,000 public appointments a year, with current roles on offer including: non-executive board member of HM Land Registry; independent chief inspector of borders and immigration; and member of the Engineering Biology Steering Group.
The Sheffield call out is an attempt to increase regional representation on UK public boards.

The first of 86 government-funded 4G masts have been switched on in Wales, as part of a joint plan with telecoms firms to deliver mobile connectivity across 95 per cent of the UK landmass.
The switch on means that some rural communities in Wales are now able to access fast and reliable 4G mobile coverage.
Those set to benefit this month include residents, tourists, and business owners in Pont-rhyd-y-groes, Ysbyty Ystwyth, LLanafan,Tynygraig, and West Fedw and Trawsgoed.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has claimed the government is falling short on its promise to “fix the crisis in social care” with chronic understaffing, rising waiting lists and patchwork funding putting sustained pressure on local authorities.
In a newly published report, the PAC is calling for stronger leadership, long-term financial support, and a clear workforce strategy to address key shortfalls in the adult social care sector.

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill has been introduced to parliament today.
Under the Bill, children turning 15 this year or younger will never legally be able to be sold tobacco. The bill is designed to ensure that future generations are protected from the harmful impacts of smoking and save thousands of lives as well as billions of pounds for the NHS.

A devolution deal has been signed in the North East between the Government and the seven leaders of the region's major councils.
As a result of the deal, the incoming North East Mayor and Cabinet will have more control over transport, housing and skills.
The deal also makes available over £100 million of new funding.
The deal is intended to set a clear route for the region to take on the core powers agreed with West Midlands Mayor Andy Street and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.
The deal was originally announced in the spring budget.

Joanna Killian has started her new role has chief executive of the Local Government Association (LGA).
She previously served for six years as CEO of Surrey County Council.
In a letter to chief executives on her first day, she said: “I know that many of your residents and communities are under intense pressure, and your organisations, in partnership with others, are crucial in supporting their health, wellbeing and happiness.

Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change has appointed Professor Paul Lewis as the new Independent Chair of the Clean Air Advisory Panel (CAAP).
The panel provides evidence-based advice and recommendations to the Welsh Government on air quality matters in Wales, which is used to underpin the decision making of Welsh Ministers.
The panel informs Welsh Government’s understanding of airborne pollution in Wales, and therefore supports the development of policies to drive improvements in air quality in Wales.

Bassetlaw is to receive £20 million of funding from the wider £400 million Levelling Up Partnerships in England.
The money will be spent on regenerating local towns, tackling anti-social behaviour and refurbishing cherished community centres.
It will also be used to improve the area’s educational and health services through new and improved facilities for the community to use.
Money from Levelling Up Partnerships in England, with the funding going to the 20 areas most in need for levelling up.

Secretary of state for energy security Claire Coutinho has announced the award of over £75 million from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund to offer free upgrades to tenants’ homes.
The money can be spent on upgrades such as insulation, double glazing and the installation of heat pumps.
Funding will be made available to 42 councils and housing associations across England to install energy saving measures in social homes, while at the same time, supporting 1,300 jobs in the UK’s retrofit industry.
