Unite announces strike actions across 18 Scottish Councils
Unite has announced that its local government membership involved in waste and cleansing services in Scotland will take strike action for eight days across 18 Councils if no credible pay offer is tabled before Wednesday 14 August.
The action will involve waste workers, street cleaners, and recycling centre operators.
If no deal is reached before then, strike action is set to begin at 5am on Wednesday 14 August and end at 4:59am on Thursday 22 August.

Government launches rapid review of Environmental Improvement Plan
The Government has announced a rapid review of the Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP), which is to be completed by the end of the year.
The government will develop a new, statutory plan to protect and restore the natural environment with delivery plans to meet each of the Environment Act targets.
The focus will be on cleaning up the waterways, reducing waste across the economy, planting millions more trees, improving air quality and halting the decline in species by 2030.

Government increases housing targets
The government has announced an overhaul of the planning system intended to grow the economy and build more houses.
Every English council will be given new mandatory housing targets to pave the way to deliver 1.5 million more homes. The targets will mean that councils will have to increase housebuilding in the areas most in need and at the same time, help more people buy their own homes and remove the largest barriers to economic growth.
