Local government reforms open for views

Communities have been asked to share their views on local government reorganisation.

52 submissions have already been received from local leaders in 14 areas including Devon, Derbyshire, and Kent.

The plans have now been put forward for feedback from local people, organisations, and businesses. The consultation will run until 25 March 2026.

Minister of State for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern said: "Unitary councils provide clarity for residents and are more effective.

"That’s why we’re carrying out the biggest change to local government in a generation, and I would encourage local people and businesses to share their views in shaping the future of their area."

The reorganisation is intended to reduce duplication and bureaucracy and provide better and more efficient public services.
