Elevate Your Business with Isuzu D-Max: VAT & VED-Friendly Solution

In the Autumn Budget 2024, released on 30th October 2024, HMRC introduced a change in the legislation regarding the tax treatment of double and extended cab pick-ups. Vehicles purchased from April 2025 onwards are classified as company cars for Benefit-in-Kind (BIK), Capital Allowance (CA), and some deductions from business profits.

However, the Isuzu D-Max Utility Single Cab model does qualify as a commercial vehicle with regards to Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) and Capital Allowance treatment. Therefore, fleets operating a new single cab Utility model enjoy the BIK flat rate of £4,020 annually for 2025/2026, and a 100% Capital Allowance write-off as the model remains classified as ‘Plant & Machinery’.

Additionally, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Commercial is based on the premium award-winning V-Cross Double Cab and has been professionally converted into a two-seater model to meet the needs of commercial operators. The rear passenger space has been permanently adapted into a secure load zone, ensuring the vehicle cannot be returned to a passenger configuration, thus qualifying the model for the BIK  flat-rate and 100% Capital Allowance write-off.

VAT Refunds That Favour Businesses

Despite these changes, Isuzu D-Max pick-ups still qualify for VAT reclaims. The amount that can be reclaimed depends on how much the vehicle is used for business versus personal purposes. If the vehicle primarily serves business needs, a significant portion of the VAT can consequently be reclaimed.

Regular company cars do not have this benefit, which instead demands exclusive business use for any VAT refund. Isuzu offers a more flexible approach, ensuring that occasional personal use does not affect the ability to reclaim VAT for VAT-registered businesses making fully taxable supplies.

Fixed Commercial Rate for Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)

Similarly, treatment for VED purposes for these vehicles continues to be charged at the commercial vehicle rate of £345 per year, offering continued affordability for business users.
