The London Borough of Hounslow has unveiled new plans to invest £3.85 million to help tackle waste and litter and improve recycling rates across the borough.
The council has a vision to create a Cleaner, Greener Hounslow working with residents and businesses to deliver public spaces and good quality neighbourhoods that are not blighted by litter, fly-tipping and graffiti.
Proposals unveiled in the new Local Environmental Improvement Programme for 2021-23 include: measures to drive down levels of fly-tipping and littering, inlacing a 12-month Park Ranger pilot scheme; an accelerated Pothole Pledge; a ‘Hotspot’ deep cleansing service to clean up grime spots across the borough; increasing recycling rates; and plans to continue planting trees across the borough will add to the 4,500 trees already planted in parks and roadsides in 2020/21.
Guy Lambert, Hounslow Council cabinet member for Highways, Recycling and Companies said: “Building civic pride by tackling waste, litter, improving recycling rates and ensuring our streets and parks are clean and tidy is a priority for Hounslow. Recycling rates has increased to more than 35 per cent, but we must strive to push for an overall rate of 50 per cent. We know residents want to live and work in streets and spaces that are free of litter, dumped waste and graffiti, which is why we are pushing ahead with plans to invest £3.85 million in improving the environment of the borough.”
