Senior councillors from across Scotland are set to meet to discuss the government’s education policy.
Education councillors from 28 local authorities will gather to debate the issue of education at a meeting hosted by council umbrella body Cosla.
The meeting will focus on how money raised from council taxes should be spent. Currently the government wants the £100 million generated by the rise in council tax of high band houses to be handed to headteachers, to spend directly on their schools.
It is hoped the money will be used to help raise attainment and help narrow the gap between wealthy and poor pupils.
In an interview with the BBC, Scottish Education Secretary John Swinney, said: "We made clear in our election manifesto that we would change some of the aspects of council collection, to expand the bands and increase some of the thresholds and that would generate £100 million which we would invest in the attainment fund."
