York City Council has revealed in its Local Plan that it has earmarked land which it intends to build 10,700 new homes upon, by 2037.
The Conservative and Liberal Democrat-run authority also maintained that it had outlined areas of land for economic development. The plans showed that the houses would be built over the next 20 years on sites near Elvington, Wigginton and Haxby.
The proposal is due to go before the council’s executive on 30 June before any public consultation, with a permanent green belt also set to be created around the city.
A spokesperson for York City Council said: "The developing Local Plan aims to support the city's economic growth, addresses the shortage of housing and helps shape future developments and employment in York over the next 15 years and beyond."
