Khan to assess housing zone scheme

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that he will review the capital’s housing zone scheme in an attempt to bring about the availability of affordable housing.

Khan expressed his satisfaction with the £400 million scheme which created a potential 53,000 new homes across 31 London housing zones.

However, speaking on Question Time, he expressed concerns that only 4,418 built homes and 13 per cent of homes given planning permission last year were affordable. Khan said that his overall aim was to increase the amount of affordable homes per new development from 40 per cent to 50 per cent.

He commented: “I will support housing zones while they’re in place, and bring forward affordable homes while being clear about my priorities.”
