According to provisional figures, Homes England has beaten its annual targets for the number of houses started, completed, and potential homes unlocked in 2024-25, which is a key part of the government’s mission to deliver 1.5 million homes.
Homes England has worked in partnership with local, regional and national organisations to catalyse housing, regeneration, and place-making across the country. Thanks to Homes England, 36,000 homes have been completed, which is a 14 per cent increase from last year, facilitated the start of construction for 38,000 homes, up six per cent on 2023-24, and unlocked land that has the potential to deliver 79,000 homes.
Behind the scenes of these achievements, local leaders are being supported to achieve their housing aspirations through targeted interventions, government top-ups to the Affordable House Programme, and private-public investment to further bolster growth.
Matthew Pennycook, minister of state for housing and planning, said: “Homes England is playing a crucial role in supporting the government’s Plan for Change to build 1.5 million new homes and deliver the biggest increase in social and affordable housebuilding in a generation.
“Last year I set out ambitious priorities for Homes England and I am pleased that the Agency has exceeded key housebuilding targets to ramp up the deliver of new homes and place-based regeneration. This is alongside backing SME housebuilders and bolstering the government’s wider devolution agenda to unlock much-needed housing and growth.
