London Stock Exchange opened by Jenny Laing

Jenny Laing, the leader of Aberdeen City Council, has opened the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the its successful £370 million bond issue.

Aberdeen was the first council in Scotland to launch an index linked bond in November, supporting a £1 billion transformational capital and infrastructure programme. The programme will support major projects such as the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and the City Centre Masterplan.

Laing said: “It is a great honour for Aberdeen City Council to lead the market open at the London Stock Exchange. The bond represents one of the most significant achievements in our council’s history. We became the first local authority in Scotland to turn to the markets in this way and the process underlines our commitment to innovation - not just in finance but in every aspect of what we do on a daily basis.”
