Gloucester City Council reduces budget shortfall

Gloucester City Council has said it has reduced its expected budget shortfall from £1.5m to £288,000.

The council says the deficit came about due to rise in energy bills that affected leisure facilities and the crematorium, as well as the cost of temporary housing for homeless people.

The council has now said that it has reduced the deficit by buying property for temporary accommodation, bringing in Freedom Leisure to run leisure centre GL1 and reopening Longsmith Street Car Park.

According to Gloucestershire Live, the council has also won a grant from Sports England to install solar panels and energy efficient pumps.
