From next month, 1,800 low paid workers employed by Leicester City Council will receive a pay rise in line with an increase in the real Living Wage.
The staff, including school staff, will be given a 30p per hour pay rise, from £8.45 to £8.75, representing an annual increase of almost £600 a year for full-time staff. The increase will cost the city council, who adopted the Living Wage in April 2013, an additional £400,000 per year.
Peter Soulsby, City Mayor, said: "We remain fully committed to the real Living Wage at Leicester City Council staff. It is is an important part of efforts to tackle low pay in Leicester and I would like to see all local employers adopting it.”
