Space sector in Leicester gets levelling up boost

Felicity Buchan, the exchequer secretary has visited Leicester's Pioneer Park to look at how government investment is going to support the space and satellite technology sectors in the city.

£19.4 million of levelling up funding is intended to provide high-quality work spaces for advanced manufacturing and R&D linked to the space and satellite technologies, and in turn, increase the expansion of technology, innovation and science businesses in the city.

During the visit, the minister learnt how the development will work with the University of Leicester's Space Park. The Space Park was opened by Tim Peake this year and houses a collaborative community of industry, academics and students.

Buchan met with companies working in the Space Park to learn about collaboration between researchers and the private sector.

Buchan said: "It’s fantastic to see how our investment will turbocharge growth in Leicester’s rapidly expanding space sector, encouraging innovative businesses to expand and grow in the city, creating high-skilled jobs."
