Grant Shapps becomes home secretary following Suella Braverman's resignation
Suella Braverman has resigned as Home Secretary to be replaced by Grant Shapps.
Shapps was previously transport secretary and lost this position when Liz Truss became prime minister.
In her resignation letter, Braverman said she was quitting over a mistake she had made, sending documents from her personal email address.
She also criticised the government, saying: "Pretending we haven't made mistakes, carrying on as if everyone can't see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics.
"It is obvious to everyone that we are going through a tumultuous time.
"I have had serious concerns about this government's commitment to honouring manifesto commitments, such as reducing overall migration numbers and stopping illegal migration, particularly the dangerous small boats crossings."
Having held the job for 43 days, Braverman is the shortest serving Home Secretary since the Second World War.
Labour's shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said: "To appoint and then sack both your home secretary and chancellor within six weeks is utter chaos."
