DLUHC publishes update on Grenfell site following community meeting

A Grenfell Tower site community online meeting was held on 1 November, which included updated on activity at the site including maintenance and safety works.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has published an update and shared a video of the meeting online. The video is 20 minutes long.

The meeting was led by Matt Hogan, head of site management, DLUHC and Steve Jones, DUK, principal contractor for the Grenfell Tower site.

During the meeting, maintenance and safety works were discussed including the installation of 'props' in the basement and weekly inspections. The installation of props is now complete and no further propping work is planned.

The next phase of the the refurbishment of the Lancaster West Estate is planned to start early next year. Residents can now access the garages under the walkway blocks by contacting the site management team.

Attendees also discussed asbestos removal in Grenfell Tower.

A new contractor is needed to monitor air quality in the area, as the current arrangement has ended. Air quality monitoring results are available online.

It was also highlighted that physical and mental health support is available to members of the community who were affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

It was noted that no decision has been made on the future of the tower and further community engagement is needed before this decision is made.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 6 December.
