Brent Borough Council has again chosen Capita plc to deliver business rates collection for the authority for a further five years, with a potential three-year extension.
Capita, which has delivered the service for Brent since 2003, has been awarded the £3million contract, continuing to collect up to £137 million in business rates from over 9,000 businesses in the borough.
Before Capita started its contract 15 years ago, the council’s collection rate was 94.7 per cent. Since the contract, rates have increased year on year since, reaching 98.6 per cent in 2017/2018.
Margaret McLennan, deputy leader of Brent Council, said: “Thanks to the big improvements to business rate collection rates, we have been able to invest more in frontline services to make Brent a great place to live and work. The new contract we have signed with Capita will increase the level of business rate collections in Brent and enable us to deliver more efficient services to our residents.”
