Boundary review proposals released

Plans for the redrawing of constituency boundaries have been released.

The proposals will see England gain 10 MPs taking their total from 533 to 543. Meanwhile, Wales will lose eight seats and Scotland will lose two.

The plans are part of regular redrawing to make sure seats have roughly the same number of voters and are the first redrawing since 2010.

The new boundaries will be finalised by July 2023 and are set to be introduced at the next general election, expected to be in 2024.

The proposed boundaries have been outlined by the Boundary Commission for England, which is one of four independent bodies in each of the nations of the UK which are responsible for redesigning constituencies. The goal is to ensure each constituency has between 69,724 and 77,062 residents.

A consultation on the proposals is open until 5 December.
