It has been announced that Birmingham 2022 funding has been secured with the aim of continuing the legacy of the games.
£60 million of underspend from the Birmingham 2022 budget will be invested in the West Midlands. The funding aims to increase access to sport and culture, boost the reputation of the area as a host for major events and drive inward investment and tourism.
In order to capitalise on the success of Birmingham 2022 and encourage more people to engage with sport and culture in the region, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will work with the West Midlands Combined Authority and Birmingham City Council.
Other legacies also exist from the Commonwealth Games, with the Birmingham 2022 kit giveaway gifting 16,000 items to local community groups.
