Glasgow publishes Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan

Glasgow has published the five year Climate Change Strategy and Action plan, to help combat the affect of climate change in Glasgow.

It recognised that Glasgow has an important role to play in addressing climate change and also in encouraging its citizens to become more climate conscious.

The document also recognised that while climate change is a global problem, Glasgow can provide its own local solution by showing how a modern city can develop while being environmentally friendly at the same time.


Glasgow’s new strategy and action plan explains how to help to combat climate change by setting a number of key strategic measures and actions planned by the council to address the serious challenges the city faces as a result of global warming.

The strategy will be annually reviewed.


As part of Glasgow’s commitment to fighting climate change and make the city more sustainable it has launched a city-wide partnership called Sustainable Glasgow, which aims to make Glasgow one of Europe’s most sustainable cities within ten years.

It will enable Glasgow to reduce its carbon emissions by 30 per cent within ten years while at the same time creating jobs, tackling fuel poverty and regenerating the city.

Councillor Ruth Simpson, convener of the Sustainability and the Environment Policy Development Committee at Glasgow City Council, said: "This document shows all Glaswegians what we can do to play our part to tackle climate change, reduce pollution and making our city a better place to live, work and visit."
