PPS Pumps: building resilience from the ground down

Property flooding is a risk and failure to plan for it makes it inevitable

As the UK faces increasing pressure from extreme weather, government bodies and facility operators are being pushed to adapt infrastructure to cope with the realities of a changing climate. Basements, plant rooms and other below-ground facilities are particularly at risk from flooding, drainage failure and water ingress, often turning into expensive liabilities without proper design and support.

Are your properties’ pump systems up to standard?

At Packaged Pumps Systems (PPS), we specialise in safeguarding these high-risk environments with engineered, future-ready drainage systems. With over two decades of experience and more than 3,000 systems under service, PPS combines manufacturing, installation, and long-term aftercare into a single, dependable package. For public-sector estates and infrastructure projects, we provide a trusted, single-source solution to reliable pump systems, ensuring performance is built in, not bolted on.

More than just pumps: complete drainage resilience

Government-owned and commercial properties, from libraries and schools to hospitals, leisure centres and housing, require robust systems that function day-in and day-out. Pump systems are often found in harsh, hidden environments. While it’s easy to focus on visible infrastructure, below-ground drainage can make or break operational continuity. That is why At PPS, our involvement begins before the first concrete pour.

Specification and design

We provide technical specification services that offer complete systems and solutions, ensuring all aspects of your application are considered.

Our in-house Technical Team engages with designers, architects and specifiers to ensure the pump system solutions are fit-for-purpose, compliant with industry standards (including BS 8102), and tailored to specific building demands. We offer step by step technical services with free of charge site surveys when required.

Once a specification request has been received by our Technical Sales Department we will produce a detailed technical specification pack which takes into consideration all site-specific technical parameters.

Using our years of technical knowledge and expertise we ensure your project runs as smoothly as possible from start to finish. We offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ total solution approach to our business, meaning we take full responsibility for your client from specification through to installation and ongoing aftercare.

We offer custom design solutions that suit your projects’ specific needs, from big projects to those of a smaller scale, we do it all. So whether you're working on a new housing development or retrofitting legacy assets, our systems are engineered for real-world conditions, not off-the-shelf assumptions.

Full-service support: from specification to servicing

What truly differentiates PPS is our fully managed delivery model. We don’t just sell products, we build long-term protection through:

  • Design and specification: engineering tailored systems to suit project-specific needs
  • In-house manufacturing: all core products including pump stations, backup units, alarms and control panels are made in the UK
  • Installation and commissioning: delivered by our in-house, qualified engineers
  • Maintenance and servicing: scheduled maintenance service and emergency callouts
  • Remote monitoring technology: continuous insights and predictive maintenance via our proprietary SideWinder Tech platform as part of our maintenance contracts

For clients, this means one accountable partner across the project lifecycle. There are no handoffs, no fragmentation, only dependable delivery.

Case in point: Fleet Street emergency recovery

We work across both residential and commercial properties and have over two decades of experience and happy clients. In one recent commercial project on London’s Fleet Street, a site that could just as easily have been a municipal basement or archive facility, PPS was called in to assess a faulty pump station installed by another supplier. The existing system suffered from continuous running, leak-prone pipework, and a critical battery backup failure. Our team carried out:

  • Emergency repairs to stabilise the site
  • Full assessment of installation errors
  • Re-specification and replacement of components
  • Site coordination for minimal disruption
  • Commissioning of new battery backup and remote monitoring

This project not only restored operational safety but highlighted how poor specification and installation can escalate into costly remedial work, a risk PPS mitigates from day one.

We offer free site surveys. Read more.

Basements: are they just hidden, damp spaces?

Basements and other below-ground spaces are often under-utilised or poorly specified in public and commercial buildings, partly due to lingering misconceptions about damp, flooding and limited usability. In reality, with proper design and pumping infrastructure, these spaces can be highly valuable, safe and dry.

We help you unlock this potential by addressing drainage challenges head-on, ensuring every component, from pump selection to alarms and backup systems, is designed to stand the test of time.

How we do it

At PPS we believe in proper specification and preventative maintenance, not crisis response.

Many of the failures PPS engineers are called out to fix could have been prevented entirely through routine servicing. Pumps operate in tough environments and, like any mechanical system, they degrade without care. Wear and tear, electrical faults and debris build-up are common threats.

To eliminate this risk, PPS provides planned maintenance packages tailored to usage and risk profile. Options include:

  • Quarterly, biannual or annual service visits
  • Health checks, system cleaning and part replacement
  • Battery backup testing and software diagnostics
  • Trustworthy, responsive support with rapid dispatch if faults are detected

For facilities where downtime is costly and reputational risk is high, proactive servicing isn’t a nice-to-have feature, it’s essential.

Should you need us in case of an emergency,do not worry! PPS offers 24/7 emergency call outs.

Technology that thinks ahead: remote monitoring with SideWinder Tech™

Smart monitoring is fast becoming a non-negotiable feature in modern infrastructure. PPS’s proprietary SideWinder Tech™ platform offers:

  • Real-time pump status tracking
  • Remote diagnostics for early fault detection
  • Alarm alerts and response coordination
  • Performance data and maintenance logs

This technology enables estate teams to respond faster, reduce emergency callouts and optimise their asset management strategies. Many issues are resolved remotely, saving time and costs, particularly for multi-site portfolios such as schools, care homes or council properties, therefore leaving you with total peace of mind.
