Ofsted has given Rotherham Council an overall ‘Good’ rating in its latest inspection, following on from the much-publicised child sexual exploitation scandal in 2014.
In 2014, a report revealed that up to 1,400 children were sexually abused between 1997 and 2013, leading to the government taking control of the authority in February 2015. Some services, although not those for children, have since returned to local control last year.
The latest Ofsted inspection, which took place last November, recognised ‘significant improvement’, noting that the ‘quality and impact of services for children are transformed’.
Patricia Bradwell, Children's Commissioner at Rotherham Council, said: "The council and its partners have worked very hard to change outcomes for children, young people and families and I am delighted that this hard work has been recognised in this way."
