MPs to review E-voting in Trade Union Bill

The government is expected to review whether electronic voting in strike ballots should be allowed, as part of a series of changes to the Trade Union Bill.

The Bill has already faced fierce criticism from unions and the Labour party, and is due to return before MPs after a series of defeats in Lords.

The e-voting proposal is one of the amendments put forward by the House of Lords when it defeated the government in votes on the Bill in March. Other proposals include requiring labour-affiliated union members to ‘opt in’ to paying a levy to the party, which it believes three million fewer members would agree to pay, costing the party £6 million.

A spokeswoman for David Cameron said: "The bill is going through the usual parliamentary process in the House where members of Parliament have the opportunity to voice views and raise concerns and the government can look at those and respond appropriately."
