£7.6m regeneration scheme for Butetown in Cardiff

The Welsh Assembly Government have announced a £7.6m regeneration scheme for Butetown in Cardiff.

The plans will provide new services and facilities to improve opportunities for Butetown residents including a new purpose-built community centre, a state-of-the art youth centre, a community training centre, with grants to improve community premises and social enterprises and environmental improvements.

The scheme will be financed by £6.2m from the Welsh Assembly Government, including £2m from the European Regional Development Fund and £4.6m from the Targeted Match Fund, with further funding from Cardiff Council.

Deputy Minister for Housing and Regeneration Jocelyn Davies said: "Improving the appearance of an area and enhancing access to community services will deliver a range of benefits, supporting local communities to thrive and prosper."
