You will see the seals basking and lolloping on the shore or popping their heads up around the boat. It really is a beautiful way to experience these inquisitive animals. If you are lucky, you might spot a Porpoise on the boat trip to the reserve.
The easiest way to reach the Seal Watching departure point in Harwich, is to use the Harbour Ferry from Shotley Marina to Harwich in 7 minutes or from Felixstowe Landguard to Harwich in 15 minutes.
The journey to the seal colony departs from Harwich Half Penny Pier and will take you through the historic Harwich Harbour, with beautiful views of the River Orwell and Stour Estuaries. We will then sail past the largest container ships in the world at Felixstowe Port before venturing on to the mystical creeks of Hamford Water Nature Reserve to the seals. The 8th book in the Swallows and Amazons is set in these very creeks.
