UrbanChain is the leading provider of peer-to-peer energy services in the UK.

Having been founded in Manchester in 2017 by Dr. Somayeh Taheri, UrbanChain has since continued to disrupt the energy market by reducing the energy bill prices for businesses and households.

Its trading platform is called the peer-to-peer (P2P) exchange which is driven by AI and blockchain technologies.

Private companies from multiple sectors, generators of renewable energy, local authorities, social housing associations, manufacturers, energy suppliers and households are all part of the company’s established renewable energy trading market.

The P2P exchange profiles consumption behaviours and production patterns and secures the best match between green energy consumers and generators of renewable energy on a half hourly basis.

Once onboarded into the P2P exchange consumers (business and household) buy 100% local green energy and save up to 50% on energy bills.

The result for generators of renewable energy is at least 25% better margins and more money earned in the medium to long term; and they have no need to sell to intermediaries and intermediaries don’t then sell to the wholesale market.

UrbanChain's turnover pipeline is £22m and the company has received £7.35m in funding to date, including from Eurazeo, Innovate UK and various government bodies.

The company, which continues to disrupt a highly regulated market, has ambitions for an IPO within the next three years.
