Following a recent report into the broadband connectivity speeds across the UK, the City of York Council has celebrated having the fastest broadband download speed in the country.
Using Ofcom data, the report shows that the York Outer constituency has the fastest download speed in the country at 128.9Mbps, with York Central second fastest at 82.4Mbps. The national average is 44.6Mbps.
David Carr, leader of City of York Council, said: “This report reinforces York’s position as the most digitally connected city in the country. With 20,000 homes in the city already able to access broadband speeds in excess of 250Mbps, this world-class connectivity is helping to create jobs, improve lives and services for everyone who lives, works and visits the city.
“And although we are proud of what we have achieved so far, we will not rest on our laurels. We are continuing to work with our partners to ensure that broadband speeds in the centre of the city match those outside the historic core and expanding our city centre public Wi-Fi.”
