Norfolk Council urges former social workers to return

Norfolk County Council has launched a new Social Care Academy to recruit and retain social workers and encourage former social workers back to the profession, in order to address the staff shortage.

The news comes as around 10 per cent of social work roles remain vacant across the country, leaving councils to rely on expensive agency employees.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has also launched a pilot scheme which will offer former social workers a 13-week refresher programme to help them back to work.
