Devon improves sign language communications

Devon County Council has introduced a new way for users of British Sign Language (BSL) to contact them via a Video Relay Service (VRS).

The new service, provided by Sign Solutions, enables BSL users to contact the council via the InterpretersLive video link, whereby an interpreter relays their conversation with the appropriate person at the council and then signs back the response.

Barry Parsons, cabinet member with responsibility for Organisational Development and Digital Transformation, said: “It’s vital that every person in our community has the same opportunities to access the services we provide. This new service will help the many BSL users in Devon to do just that and we’re delighted to be making it available.”
