Optimism low for councils amid future cuts

Councils are reporting to be less optimistic about handling upcoming cuts than they were in the past, according to new report into the future of financial management.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has revealed that numerous councils are pre-empting a need to rethink their approach to financial management, given that future years are already being deemed as ‘potentially difficult’.

The report, ‘Governmental Financial Resilience Under Austerity’, looks in depth at Manchester city Council, Warrington BC, Wigan Council and Derbyshire City Council, and analyses the councils perceptions and attitudes from eight years ago compared to those held currently in 2016.
