Government advised to increase awareness of online threats

Friday, 03 February 2012 11:05

A report by the science and technology select committee has urged the government to launch a "prolonged" awareness campaign on internet safety for everyday users.

The committee complained that readily available information was often jargon filled and that there was no single point of advice for consumers. It said the government needed to properly resource its Get Safe Online campaign and promote advice through television exposure and government websites.

The committee chairman Andrew Miller said “Government departments need to realise that better public information about computer safety could save huge numbers of people the hassle of having their personal details stolen.”
