£150m for new homes in Edinburgh

Friday, 20 January 2012 10:36

21st Century Homes is redeveloping three sites with mixed tenure communities, delivering up to 1,300 homes.

A mix of 50% affordable, including the first new council homes for a generation, and 50% private housing, the  programme will produce well designed, highly sustainable properties and contribute towards meeting the city’s housing need whilst supporting the construction industry, jobs and training.

Following approval of the business plan in March 2009, all three sites have been masterplanned, and planning permission in principle has been achieved. Detailed design and developer procurement is complete on the first site and construction has commenced.

As mixed tenure developments, project funding involves a combination of Housing Revenue Account (HRA) cash reserves, prudential borrowing and cross-subsidy from market sale housing. The Scottish Government also contributed funding.
