Bath Council planning £37m cut back

Bath and North East Somerset Council have announced cuts to generate £37 million in savings to compensate for ongoing government funding cuts.

The plans include cutting £5.6 million from adult social care and putting around 150 full-time jobs under threat by 2020.

Commenting on the plans, Dine Romero, the opposing Liberal Democrats leader, said: "You cut it right back to the absolute bone with no additional give, nothing to deal with stress or illness or even holidays.

"I'm very fearful, particularly when there is nothing left in the system to cover the unexpected."

However, the ruling Conservative party at the council countered it had to save £37 million by 2019-20 and cited that it had saved an additional £12 million this financial year.

Budget proposals will be discussed at the full council meeting on 14 February before a final decision is made.
