Sustainable design Following the success of last years event, 100% Design has again invited University of Brighton’s IF:Laboratory directors Nick Gant and Jonathan Chapman to create another event space that will bring sustainable design discourse, discussion, and debate to the floor of 100% Design. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Models of Sustainable Design’ and will demonstrate issues of scale, contradiction, and minimisation presented as a model railway. Running through the landscapes will be trains laden with miniature products. Visitors to the stand will be able to drive the trains and position them in front of live television cameras that will then beam pictures of the exhibits out onto screens around the stand at Earls Court. Dynamic design trio, Lime Studio, has been commissioned by Tom Dixon to design the main bar area for the exhibition. Working closely with Levantina – the worldwide leader in the natural stone market, Lime Studio is creating a breathtaking bar teamed with specially designed tables and chairs. Lucky visitors to the last day of the show will be able to purchase key pieces from the bar sold on a first come first served basis. RugMark UK is a non-profit organisation working in South Asia to ensure that the rug industry is free of child labour. RugMark is running a design-a-rug competition to raise awareness about responsible production methods. The winning rug will be manufactured in Nepal, and the winner will receive a one-week trip to Kathmandu to see their rug being hand loomed and all winning and commended designs will be exhibited at 100% Design.
